Posted on: 03/08/2011
Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) today announced that the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary and Bradford Hospital Foundation will host an inaugural Spring Swing gala event, which will take place on Saturday, March 26 at the Pennhills Club in Bradford. This gala will honor those that have excelled in healthcare, medical and/or philanthropic efforts, making lasting impressions on the community. This year, Widad E. Bazzoui, M.D. and Reverend Leo J. Gallina will be recognized for their commitment and demonstrated excellence in these areas.
“Throughout the past year, Bradford Regional Medical Center has taken significant steps to improve the quality of healthcare in our region,” said Timothy J. Finan, President and CEO of Upper Allegheny Health System and member hospitals Bradford Regional Medical Center and Olean General Hospital. “Dr. Bazzoui and Reverend Gallina have each played a significant role in helping advance the medical and healthcare services available to the people of Bradford and surrounding communities, not just in the past year, but throughout their professional careers. We are extremely pleased to recognize their contributions to the community and to the hospital.”
This is the first time in the 124-year history of the hospital that Bradford Regional Medical Center has chosen to honor individuals who are making a difference in the local healthcare community. A steering committee, consisting of Bradford Hospital Foundation Chairman Sandra McKinley, ARG Resources President/CEO Harvey Golubock, Minard Run Oil CEO Fred Fesenmyer and O’Mara Group, LLC President Jim O’Mara were responsible for selecting this year’s recipients. Mr. Golubock served as chairman of the committee while Mr. Fesenmyer and Mr. O’Mara were vice chairmen. All three also serve on the Bradford Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“We are excited to recognize Dr. Bazzoui and Reverend Gallina for their tireless efforts in helping to positively impact the lives of others,” said Sandra McKinley, Bradford Hospital Foundation Chairman. “They are held in high regard at Bradford Regional Medical Center, and we couldn’t be more pleased to highlight their achievements to the community.”
Dr. Bazzoui has been an active member of the Bradford community for nearly 40 years. He was responsible for spearheading the development of Behavioral Health programs offered at BRMC, including The Guidance Center, Beacon Light, Futures Rehabilitation Center and various group homes throughout the community. Dr. Bazzoui’s efforts have been instrumental in establishing comprehensive Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Drug and Alcohol services for patients throughout the greater Bradford region.
Reverend Gallina, a Bradford native who has served as the Pastor of St. Bernard’s Church for the past 10 years, always includes visitations to BRMC in his daily rounds. Reverend Gallina is responsible for several philanthropic initiatives at the hospital, and has excelled in his professional and personal commitment to hospital patients, Pavilion residents, employees and families throughout the community.
“These two individuals have worked very hard to make a significant and meaningful contribution to the greater Bradford region,” said Vonda Reese, Bradford Hospital Auxiliary President. “We are honored to recognize them not only for their commitment to the hospital, but for their commitment to the community as well.”
Proceeds from this year’s Spring Swing will benefit the renovation of the Critical Care Unit at BRMC. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, complimentary wine and a cash bar. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. and the award presentation for honorees will immediately follow. The night concludes with dancing to the music of Ben Baia and the Big City Horns.
