As part of World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-7, the Keystone 10 Breastfeeding Initiative Committee at Bradford Regional Medical Center provided information, raffles, a farmer’s market and refreshments in BRMC’s main lobby.

The committee, which represents staff from Healthy Beginnings Plus, WIC, OB and Pediatric Associates, estimates about 100 people from the community and hospital staff attended. The goal of the Keystone 10 Initiative is to increase initiation and duration of breastfeeding, to improve breastfeeding awareness, education and support within healthcare settings and is in collaboration with the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP). Breastfeeding for at least a year, with the gradual introduction of foods around six months, lays a foundation for life-long health and wellness for both mother and baby.
