Bradford Regional Medical Center honored its volunteers for their time and service to the hospital and awarded several scholarships during a luncheon May 18 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.   The hospital recognized 120 active volunteers who donated their time and service over the last year.

“I want to extend to each of you my heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all that you do for our hospital. Your willingness to give your time to help the hospital and those we serve inspires all of us. Thank you for your exemplary effort and your wonderful gift of service to BRMC,” said Timothy J. Finan, president and chief executive officer, Upper Allegheny Health System and Bradford Regional Medical Center.

In addition to recognizing all of BRMC’s volunteers, special recognition was given to those celebrating anniversaries: 25 years – Jim Clark, Shirley Clark, Cordelia Eddy; 20 years – Roger Alexis, Nancy O’Donnell; 15 years – Nancy Campbell, Louise Stoltz; 10 years – Loisanne Bay, Dr. Anita Herbert, Larry Saar, Robert Tingley; five years – Nancy Bess, Rebecca Billings, Suzanne Dittman, Richard France, Linda Slike.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities provide a variety of services for the hospital including patient escorts, art/library cart, compassionate companion, mail delivery, runners and much more. Brown, Benjamin O. and Blanche M. Wentworth Endowed Nurse Scholarship; and Kelly Helton and Renee J. Petruna, the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships.

Nannen of Smethport plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. She recently earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience at Allegheny College.

Brown, a certified nurse assistant at BRMC, is studying to become an RN at Jamestown Community College. She would like to later earn a bachelor’s degree and work as either a critical care or emergency room nurse.

Helton of Bradford is a nursing student at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. She works full time as an LPN at Bradford Manor.

Petruna of St. Marys is an LPN studying nursing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

“We are honored to remember our Bradford Hospital School of Nursing and the 600 RNs who graduated over its 60 year existence. Both of our scholarships are given in memory of its alumni, Doris Newton in 1938 and Blanche Wentworth in 1945,” said Francie Ambuske, director of development, Bradford Hospital Foundation.
