BRMC presents December Star Award

Posted on: 12/27/2018

Sheryl Nelson, coordinator, nursing administration, received Bradford Regional Medical Center’s December Star Award.

Nelson started her career at BRMC as a unit secretary in 1994. In 2003, she became the nursing scheduling coordinator and two years later, moved to her current role.

According to her nomination, Nelson recently took on the task of training all timekeepers at BRMC and Olean General Hospital. She spent time creating the training materials and setting up classes. “This is only one example of how she goes beyond what is typically expected of her to get the job done. She is always one step ahead and anticipates needs to ensure the proper staffing for our patients,” the nomination read.

“Sheryl keeps the nursing division running smoothly. She is everyone’s go to person and works magic with the schedule. The nursing staff not only rely on her for scheduling issues but she lends an ear or is a shoulder to cry on when they need support,” said Paula Platko, director of nursing.

The Star Award is presented month¬ly to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Employ¬ees are nominated by patients or coworkers for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/account¬ability and excellence. Those nominated for the award are BRMC’s “shining stars.”
