BRMC presents October Star Award

Posted on: 11/08/2019

Barbara Thrush, RN, received Bradford Regional Medical Center’s October Star Award.

She joined the BRMC team in 1988 as an LPN on the med/surg unit. She continued to work as an LPN for the next 13 years until she earned a nursing degree in July 2001. Since then, Thrush has worked as an RN in acute ambulatory care, critical care, as a patient care coordinator, and nurse manager until joining the oncology department in 2016.

Thrush was nominated for the Star Award by a patient. “There really is no way to describe a reaction to hear the words ‘you have stage four cancer.’ Scary to say the least, I made my first visit to oncology and was introduced to the oncology staff. On the day of my first treatment I was introduced to nurse Barbara who, with a smile, held out her hand and asked me to choose a seat. It’s hard to explain but I felt an immediate bond with Barbara and knew that I would be in good hands; and boy was I right! She is honest, caring and a no-nonsense veteran with visible skill and professionalism who has instilled in me the confidence and strength to deal with my condition. Thank you, Barbara, for your efforts in prolonging my life,” according to her nomination.

The Star Award is presented month¬ly to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Employ¬ees are nominated by patients or coworkers for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/account¬ability and excellence. Those nominated for the award are BRMC’s “shining stars.”
