The Bradford Regional Medical Center School of Radiography held its graduation ceremony Aug. 23 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, honoring the largest class in the school’s 40-year history.

Jeanne Capra, MHA, RT, program director, BRMC School of Radiography, served as master of ceremonies and Timothy J. Finan, president, chief executive officer, BRMC, Olean General Hospital, Upper Allegheny Health System, offered remarks to the graduates.

Laura Wertz, BS, RT, clinical coordinator, BRMC School of Radiography, presented diplomas to the graduates:

Caitlin Bachman, Port Allegany; Beth Bernardi, Turtlepoint; Kayla Kerner, Katelyn Moran, Nichole Sluga, Kane; Elizabeth Coyle, Genesee; Draven Nudd, Warren; Ryan Davis, Wyalusing; Alexa Boehler, Joshua Rosenblatt, Brian Ubrey, Pittsburgh; Shelby Rice, Olean, NY; Allison Revetti, Salamanca, NY; Elizabeth Sobeck, Wellsville, NY; Tanecia Glass, Belmont, NY; Edward Kernan, Syracuse, NY; and Spencer Swartz, Batavia, NY.

Fourteen students earned a bachelor’s degree in radiological science from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, two earned a bachelor’s degree from Clarion University and one earned an associate’s degree from Jamestown Community College. Several graduates have already passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification exam.

“As a 1984 graduate of the school, I have had the privilege to work with many classes over the years. The class of 2018 has been excellent, both clinically and academically,” Capra said. “Since joining the program, these seventeen students have faced many challenges related to several technological advances. Now, as graduates, I can say without hesitation that they are more than prepared to succeed in any health care environment.”

Also, during the ceremony, students received scholarships from the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary which were presented by Holly Spittler, Ph.D, Bradford Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. Those receiving scholarships were Amanda Hollabaugh of Townville, Academic Achievement Scholarship; Beth Bernardi of Turtlepoint, Clinical Excellence Award; Caitlin Bachman of Port Allegany, Janet Butler New Professional Scholarship.

The Bradford Hospital Auxiliary awards more than $6,200 in healthcare scholarships annually. Since the inception of its scholarship program in the early 1950s, the auxiliary has awarded over $250,000 to students entering the healthcare field.

The School of Radiography, part of the Imaging Services Department at BRMC, is a 24-month program providing didactic and clinical instruction. More than 800 hours of a student’s time is spent in the classroom, and an additional 2,300 hours of clinical education is provided through the program. Since its establishment in 1978, the school has graduated more than 300 students from its two year course.
