BRMC staff pitch in for littlest patients

Posted on: 02/01/2018

The holidays have come and gone but babies born at Bradford Regional Medical Center will continue to benefit from the giving nature of the hospital’s obstetrics staff. OB staff always adopted a family in need for the holidays. But this past Christmas, they also decided to pitch in to purchase a gift that would keep on giving to those in need. Staff purchased a “mamaRoo” infant seat to help comfort infants who are born to drug dependent mothers. The seat provides a variety of gentle movements which mimic being held. Babies who are experiencing symptoms of withdrawal typically need to be constantly held and comforted. Judi Scott, RN, OB nurse manager, said they got the idea from the NICU in DuBois where the seats are also used. BRMC has used product several times so far with great success, Scott said. Pictured, from left, are Katlin Sikes, RN, Olivia Disney, RN, and Jackie Carlson, RN, with the department’s new “mamaRoo” infant seat.
