BRMC to honor leaders at annual gala

Posted on: 01/31/2017

The Bradford Regional Medical Center will hold its seventh annual Spring Swing Gala April 1 at the Pennhills Club in Bradford, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The 2017 dinner dance will honor Jill M. Owens, MD, Bradford physician and chair, family practice, BRMC, and Sandra H. McKinley, member and past chair, Bradford Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Owens graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, then completed an internship and residency at St. Vincent Hospital. A hometown physician, Dr. Owens became an advocate and champion for rural healthcare. She is currently medical director of the Foothills Medical Group and member of the McKean County Medical Society and American Medical Association. Her leadership, coupled with her philanthropic giving to the Bradford Hospital Foundation, exemplifies the special qualities that she embodies, including the title of mother, hockey mom, daughter, physician leader, neighbor and volunteer.

Mrs. McKinley, a founding board member of the Bradford Hospital Foundation and local business owner, has been dedicated to her community and BRMC for many years. She follows in the footsteps of her parents, Robert and Marjorie Habgood, whose deep convictions and advocacy for quality healthcare were known throughout the community. She served the foundation as chairman from 2004 through 2011 and chairman of Building the Future Capital Campaign from 2005 to 2010. She also belonged to the hospital’s auxiliary, as did her mother. She is a member of the advanced major gifts committee and established the Robert and Marjorie Habgood Memorial Fund. Fellow board members established the McKinley Oncology Fund in memory of her husband, Lee. Mrs. McKinley served as a Beacon Light board member for 20 years and was president of the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Dr. Owens has made caring for others her life’s work and she has had a profound impact on the fabric of life in Bradford,” said Timothy J. Finan, president and chief executive officer, Upper Allegheny Health System, BRMC. “Her commitment to BRMC, the patients in her care and the community she loves is remarkable.

“Through her tireless work on behalf of the Bradford Hospital Foundation, Mrs. McKinley’s efforts have benefited BRMC beyond measure and have advanced the mission of our hospital and the quality of life in Bradford. Together, Dr. Owens and Mrs. McKinley have demonstrated great concern for this community. We truly value their efforts on behalf of BRMC and the Bradford Hospital Foundation,” Finan said.

“The BRMC Foundation congratulates this year’s and previous awardees. We are most pleased with the ongoing philanthropy that has benefitted BRMC through this wonderful evening. The evening is possible because of the capable UAHS leadership and, in particular, Timothy J. Finan, president and CEO and his team. This important undertaking, while recognizing the extraordinary contribution of our honorees, continues to provide much needed funding for critical updates and resources for BRMC,” said James E. O’Mara, chairman of the Bradford Hospital Foundation.

Bradford Hospital Foundation vice chairman, Harvey Golubock, will again serve as emcee for the evening.

Event sponsors include Zippo Manufacturing Co., American Refining Group, Northwest, The O’Mara Group, BRMC medical staff, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kessel/Kessel Construction, the George and Zenaide Still family, and the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary.
