Influenza season begins

Posted on: 12/06/2019

The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced recently that influenza is now widespread in the state. While only one case of influenza B and four cases of influenza A have been reported in the last week by the state, Bradford Regional Medical Center stresses the importance of prevention.

The flu vaccine is readily available which is recommended for those six months and older. In addition, ways to help prevent the spread of germs include proper hand hygiene, covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces at home and work, staying home when sick and avoiding close contact with those who are sick.

The influenza season is just beginning and therefore, BRMC has not implemented any visitor restrictions at this time. However, those who are not feeling well, should not visit the hospital unless they are there for care and, if so, should wear a mask to help prevent the spread of germs. Changes to the visitation policy will be made as needed as the influenza season gets underway, should influenza activity increase.
